Question
Alexandra:

It has been long time since I last wrote. I hope this note finds you well. Please accept my best wishes for a safe and happy 2008.

I have couple of questions. The first question pertains to Darth Vader. It seems that his turn to the Dark Side was for personal reasons. He wanted to find a way to save Pademe's life when she would give birth to their children. His destroying the Sith was also for personal reasons. Luke was all Darth Vader had left of Pademe. Luke was his only reminder of his lost love. I suppose the point I am trying to make is that Darth Vader's temptation with the Dark Side was not an ideological or political one. It has more to do with feelings.

The second question pertains to Anakin meeting with the Chancellor at the Opera. I do not know if you would know the answer to this question, but what was the name of the opera they were watching?

Again, I hope this note finds you well. Take care, Alexandra. I hope to hear from you at your convenience.

Gabriel

Answer
Gabriel,
I am not sure exactly what your first question is. But I am going to say this in response. You are right when you assume that Anakin's turn to the dark side was emotional and not political or ideological. His main reason for making the transition was in fact to save Padme's life. However if you watch Episode III or read the Episode III book as well as Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (I believe is the title) It is said that the other reason converting Anakin was his belief (instilled in him by Palpatine) that the Jedi didn't trust him and were holding him back. He was a cocky Jedi and he believed that he was a far greater Jedi than the Council gave him credit for. When he is accepted to the council as Palpatine's eyes and ears he is not granted the rank of Master. Why? The jedi know he is power hungry and don't trust him with that type of power. Anakin by that point had done amazing things for the Jedi, him and Obi-Wan being such a great team famous among many worlds and that got Anakin believe he was greater than everyone else. The fact that the Jedi didn't accept this and Palpatine did, fueling Anakin's ego it made Anakin closer to Palpatine and more vulnerable to the power of the dark side. Anakin even states himself in his duel with Obi-Wan at the end of Episode III that the Jedi were corrupt and they were holding him back and now he could live up to his full potential.

I really hope that answered your question if you had a different question or want more clarification on anything I have said please don't hesitate to ask I am more than willing to help. As for your second question Anakin meets Palpatine at the Galaxies opera where he is seeing a ballet the exact wording in the book I obtained the following information from is as follows: "Anakin barely gave a glance toward the mmense sphere of shimmering water that rippled gently in the stage's arificial zero-g; he had no interst in ballet, Mon Calamari or otherwise."
I hope this answers your question it was a toughie and I gave it my best shot. As well I hope you are having a happy new year and had a good holiday. And as always thank you for allowing me to answer your questions.

Best Wishes,
Alexandra.
