AboutLauren Gilkey Expertise I consider myself an expert because not only have I watched the movies repeatedly, but I consider myself a "purist" in the sense that I've read the books, but I only accept certain books as belonging to the true story. For example, the books written after "Vision of the Future" by Zahn I do not count as authentic storyline. My areas of specific expertise are: Jedi history, Han Solo, and bounty hunters.
Question I am having trouble with my trivia question for school. The question is: How did George Lucas come up with the name Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Hint given is that it has to do with the 1933 film King Kong.
Answer Dear Holly,
I have not heard about this. Most of the theories on where George Lucas found or created the names of his characters from Hebrew or other languages. A lot of the names are rumored to have a meaning. I've never personally looked into it.
I did a little research and all I could find is that Lucas claimed that the character was loosely based off a samurai character. However, I can find nothing about the film King Kong.
My guess is that the trivia source is incorrect... I'd be curious to hear what their source is for that information and what the correct answer is. If you find out, please let me know!
