Question
Hi, as a big fan of the Star Wars films I wanted to get a bit more into the universe after the films and wondered what the first book set after Return of The Jedi is? Searching on amazon brings up so many otions it is rather daunting!

Answer
Hi Ant,
The first book is "The Truce at Bakura."  It starts immediately after the ROTJ.  Its the best place to start - and I think you're very smart for reading the books in order.  That's the best way - otherwise you'll be caught off guard on new characters or past history.

Just a hint - if you go to a book store and pick up a Star Wars book, it will have in the front or the back a list of all the Star Wars books and where they ar in order chronologically - before or after any of the movies.  The "original" books (AKA - non "New Jedi Order" and mostly published pre-prequels) will only contain the "original" books - none of the break-off series or comic books/graphic novels.  (It is my opinion, by the way, that the "original" books are the only true Star Wars books and the only  ones worth reading.)

However, if you do get to a book store and check out one of the most recently published books from a new Jedi Order series, it will give you a full and complete list, including all series and all types of books.  This is the most comprehensive list you can find - in order.

I hope I didn't confuse you - happy reading!

Expertise

I consider myself an expert because not only have I watched the movies repeatedly, but I consider myself a "purist" in the sense that I've read the books, but I only accept certain books as belonging to the true story. For example, the books written after "Vision of the Future" by Zahn I do not count as authentic storyline. My areas of specific expertise are: Jedi history, Han Solo, and bounty hunters.
