About Greg Bonkowski
Expertise
I can answer pretty much anything when it comes to the Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Knights, the history of the Jedi Knights, and other characters and incidents throughout the Star Wars saga. I am also interested in the technical aspects of the Star Wars saga. I like to think of myself as both a historian and an archeologist of the time period that took place in a galaxy far, far away.

Experience
I have been a Star Wars fan since the time my father took me to see the first movie when it was released in 1977. I have read practically every book that I can get my hands on, and I keep up to date with production of and the stories behind all five films(six if you count the next one to be released.) I am pretty much interested in the mythos surrounding Star Wars, and the history of the Jedi Knights.

Education/Credentials

Subject: Sifo Dyas

Question
Hi. I know that someone has already asked you about this, and I'm really sorry that I just can't seem to get my head round it, but How is Sifo Dyas involved with the Clone Army etc? It's just that Fett said that he was recruited by a man named Tyrannus, which would make the plot very convoluted (I think that's the right word) if you were right in saying that Sifo Dyas ordered the army to be made and then was killed by Dooku (i.e. Tyrannus)...do you get what I'm saying? I hope so. Anyway, thanks for your time.

Answer
Dear Patrick,

First of all, allow me to thank you for asking me this question. The story of Sifo Dyas is one that Lucas hasn't really dwelled into. What we do know was that Dyas was a Jedi Master and a member of the Jedi Council. Some say that he had the ability to see into the future, and what he saw, scared him. Accordingly, he approached Chancellor Palpatine and told him that in the near future he saw the Republic going to war against a vastly superior army. Since there was no army of the Republic at the time, Sifo Dyas convinced Palpatine to start its own army. The only condition was that Palpatine ordered Dyas not to tell anyone else about the creation of the army including the Jedi Council. Dyas and Palpatine believed that they could literally create their own army by using clones who would be the ultimate warriors. The two believed that if the Council found out about Komino they might lobby to stop the army. Unfortunately, as we later find out, Palpatine was really a Sith Lord named Darth Sidious who planned to use the army for himself to defeat the Jedi and conquer the galaxy. Darth Sidious was in league with Darth Tyrannus who was really the Jedi Master, Count Dooku. Palaptine ordered Dooku to kill Sifo Dyas, once his friend and fellow Jedi Master, to cover up any loose ends of the deal and to have Count Dooku prove his loyalty to the Sith order. Dooku kept Sifo Dyas' lightsaber and gave it General Grievious.

Patrick, I sure hope that this answers your question. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Sincerely,

Greg Bonkowski
