AboutGreg Bonkowski Expertise I can answer pretty much anything when it comes to the Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Knights, the history of the Jedi Knights, and other characters and incidents throughout the Star Wars saga. I am also interested in the technical aspects of the Star Wars saga. I like to think of myself as both a historian and an archeologist of the time period that took place in a galaxy far, far away.
Experience I have been a Star Wars fan since the time my father took me to see the first movie when it was released in 1977. I have read practically every book that I can get my hands on, and I keep up to date with production of and the stories behind all five films(six if you count the next one to be released.) I am pretty much interested in the mythos surrounding Star Wars, and the history of the Jedi Knights.

Question If I want to buy the ORIGINAL, UNABRIDGED books, (the ones that were released with the movies in the 70's and 80's and are not the novelizations, etc.) what exactly am I looking for? Who is/are the author/s?
Obviously they can be second or future editions, but I want to reread the exact books I read as a kid.
Also, which books would be comparable to those books for episodes I-III?
Thanks
Answer Dear Heather,
First of all, I would like to thank you for allowing me to answer this question. The history of Star Wars books has always been a chaotic one. When the movies were first released, the novelizations were released with them. There were however, a couple of Star Wars "adventures" concerning Luke and Leia, and a series of novels concerning Han Solo by Brian Delay. The Luke/Leia one was called "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" by Alan Dean Foster; 1977; 1986. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0345320239/qid=1117660582/sr=8-1/r...
And the Han Solo's ones were called "Han Solo at Star's End," "Han Solo's Revenge," and "Han Solo and the Lost Legacy." They were all written by Brian Daley.
But, sci-fi books were not all that mainstream so, Lucas decided not to produce anymore. This all changed in the mid-1990s when Timothy Zahn produced his Thrawn trilogy.
The Luke and Leia adventure takes place after Star Wars IV while the Han Solo adventures take place before Star Wars IV.
I have also given you links to amazon where you can purchase these books, which have been re-released. I have also sent you link that will give you a listing of all the Star Wars novels that have been written all together. I hope that I have answered your question for you. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.
