About Greg Bonkowski
Expertise
I can answer pretty much anything when it comes to the Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Knights, the history of the Jedi Knights, and other characters and incidents throughout the Star Wars saga. I am also interested in the technical aspects of the Star Wars saga. I like to think of myself as both a historian and an archeologist of the time period that took place in a galaxy far, far away.

Experience
I have been a Star Wars fan since the time my father took me to see the first movie when it was released in 1977. I have read practically every book that I can get my hands on, and I keep up to date with production of and the stories behind all five films(six if you count the next one to be released.) I am pretty much interested in the mythos surrounding Star Wars, and the history of the Jedi Knights.

Education/Credentials

Subject: light saber color

Question
the Jedi saber colors are usually blue, green, and in the case of Mace W., purple.

What is it about the Sith that turns the blade RED?

Answer
Todd,

First of all, please allow to thank you for answering this question. According to how lightsabres work(and this is according to Lucas) lightsabre color is affected by the types of crystals that are used to construct the blades. Lucas wanted the colors to be used as a psychological effect when he created the characters so that they can be identified with what colors that they used. Blue and Green have always been Jedi colors which have the effect of being calming colors. Red is a very intense and very aggressive emotion hence the color of the Sith.

While this is important in the Star Wars universe, the use of color for the lightsaber is very mundane. When he was filming Return of the Jedi, the blue color for Luke's lightsaber didn't shoot well along the background of the desert. So, he changed the color to green. Furthermore, in the Attack of the Clones, Samuel L. Jackson asked that his lightsaber color be purple, and Lucas complied with the request.

Todd,

I hope that I have answered your question. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.

Sincerely,

Greg Bonkowski
