Question
I have 2 questions abiut star wars my first on is how is a jedi apprentice chosen and what is the youngest age to be chosen to be an apprentice? My nexy question is in episode two Anakin says that he needs to go to his mother even though he will be punished and possibly thrown out of the jedi order how can a jedi be punished besides being thown out of the jedi order?
Thanks,
Alicia

Answer
Here are my responses (answered in the order the questions were asked):

1. Basically, before becoming a Jedi apprentice (a.k.a., Padawan), the Jedi trainer must firstly ask for the permission of the Jedi Council. If the Council agrees, the Jedi-to-be automatically becomes the Padawan, either of the Jedi who asked for permission in the council, or of another Jedi whom the Council recommends. The fundamental rule is that a Jedi Master may only have one apprentice at a time. This is why, in Episode I, Qui-Gon Jinn was initially not permitted to train Anakin, due to the fact that Qui-Gon already had an apprentice (Obi-Wan). As for the youngest age to which you allude in the question, numerous Jedi became apprentices immediately after their birth.

2. What Anakin was implying was that he could be punished, with one possible punishment being his expulsion from the Jedi Order. Therefore, visiting his mother, Shmi Skywalker, could give the Jedi Council and his Jedi Master a reason to impose punishment upon him while still being a member of the Jedi Order (much like parents grounding their child), OR, as a worst case scenario for Anakin, he could be expelled from the Order.

Thanks for asking, and I hope I answered your questions. If there are any ambiguities in the my responses, feel free to ask again. Once again, thanks.
