Star Wars & Phantom Menace/stormtrooper clone debate

Question
I see you believe that stormtroopers are in fact clones.  I am also tempted to believe that they are, but if thats so, then what purpose would the imperial academy serve?  Also in a EU book (not sure wich one) Han Solo confessed to once have been a tie fighter pilot & Han is no clone, many other former imperial soldiers have defected to the rebellion & there is no way a clone would defect.  On another note tho, in Ep4, Leia states "arent you a little short to be a stormtrooper" when she is rescued from the deathstar by solo & skywalker.  That & the stormtrooper armor is obviosly derived from the mark II clone armor.   There seems to be alot of evidence supporting both arguments.  This has been nagging at me for a long time & I hope you can finally give me some convincing evidence supporting your answer.

Answer
Sorry for not answering sooner. I strongly believe that the strom troopers are clones. Why, the two reasons you give. Also The story you mention about han solo, belongs to a EU book, thus it is not part of George Lucas vision. Maybe there were also human non clone pilots. Hope this can help.
