Question Hello! I am starting a marketing & consulting business and have read so many articles on how to form the business that my head is spinning. Initially, I will be the only one providing services but in the future will have to pay freelancers. I will be working from my home office. I am leaning towards a llc but don't know if I should wait until my business grows. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks so much!
Answer Lakesha: With lightning speed ( just got your A.E. ? as I was closing up shop this evening) I would suggest with my 45 years of small business consulting and business plan writing experience that you DO/YES setup the LLC NOW!!! Why? Two reasons: 1) Having an "LLC" adds much credibility to any small business name ESPECIALLY when you first open your business and in the early going as well. Secondly generally ( I am in CT) setting up an LLC is very inexpensive - here in CT thge few is $60.00 and only a one page application form must be submitted. Also by setting up the LLC NOW you basically prevent someone else from using the same name for an LLC perhaps while you might be operating your business as a sole propreitorship say a Lakesha's Marketing & Consulting.
