Question My name is Erik, I am starting a small business. The line of work is handy man repairs mainly (HVAC, small carpentry, ETC) I want to start soon. For the most part it would only be me doing the work for now( me my tools and a van. I started a business plan involving advertising (yellow pages, fliers, website, ETC) however, the tricky part is what do I need to do to start this business. I have had several different answers. This is what I have so far.
1. Get a tax ID number from the IRS
2. Get a D.B.A. (Doing Business As) License
3. Register with the State of Il. ($500)
4. Get insurance (bonded and insured)
and thats it......
Does this all sound right, because a friend of mine that has his own business said the DBA and Tax ID is all I need , Others say I need to register with the state for now and thats it? ....
Thank you .....
