Question
John,

I've been working in IT support for 5 years now.Recently Ive been pondering the idea of starting my own small scale IT outsourcing company. I initially came up with the idea when i had another company offer me some webdesign work but i wasn't able to do it. However a few friends who are web savvy said they would do it. Naturally this was how the idea was born and Id like your advice on how to proceed here. For instance id like to write up a business plan and I need to know what kind of contracts, forms and other things are necessary to begin such a company.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave Wilson

Answer
Dave:  You mention writing up a business plan.  This should be the first order of business.  You may wish to refer to my website www.businessbeatlive.com and click on The Business Plan Group for business plan info. By going thru the process of writing a business plan numerous questions will be answered.  I would also suggest you purchase the book entitled Starting Your First Business by Jim R. Sapp; visit his website at www.sappbiz.com.  Another great website for someone starting a business is the following:
www.businessinfoguide.com with Stephanie Chandler.
As for info on what kinds of contracts, forms, etc. I would suggest you retain the services of a local small business accountant or CPA - one who specializes in small businesses. He or she can expertly advise you re: forms, tax implications, etc. etc.  I wish you the best of luck with your business idea.
