I know every song published. I have knowledge of what most of their songs are written about. I have knowledge about the original band and about many of the musicians chosen after "pretzel logic". This is a great songwriting team that was too intelligent for mainstream outlets but still found a way to have enough crossover to be called "classic rock", "jazz fusion rock", "contemporary jazz rock"...while we heard many singles from them, most of their best stuff never got on the radio.

Steely Dan - Steely Dans Signature Song

Expert: Moe - 7/11/2007

Question
Hi, I would really like to know what is Steely Dan's signature song here in North America or in other words what do you think is there most classic rock song. I am literally just now getting interested in Steely Dan because my mom has listened to them for many years and I would like to know more about them. Thanks:Aaron Wake

Answer
Your Mom could answer this question. Let's see if she agrees with me...The "signiture" song  would be one of these: "Do It Again", "Reeling in the Years", "AJA", or "Black Cow".

However, if you ask this question in a room full of people like me or your Mom, we would say something like "My Old School", "Kid Charlemagne", "Peg", "Rose Darling" WOW the list goes on and on..."Boddisatva", "Daddy Don't Live in that New York City No More"...

Show this list to your mother and see what she says. Welcome to the 'Dan Clan...it is a fraternity and a universal language.
