Question
in the live version of reelin in the years [alive in america] the drummer does a fill
just before the guitar solo , can you tell me what that is ? to me its like playing a
straight fill over a swing feel , is there a phrase to describe it  like 'better known
as'

Answer
Hello,
Prior to every solo riff in the song in sounds like filler. I am a guitar player so I had to focus on what the drummer was doing...for sure a filler but I am not sure if it is "swing". Good call. The drummer action thoughout is pretty basic but holds the song together like glue. He performs a short and effective claymore attack on the drum kit/cymbals prior to and throughout each guitar solo.
See it on UTUBE...type in "reeling in the years"

Expertise

I know every song published. I have knowledge of what most of their songs are written about. I have knowledge about the original band and about many of the musicians chosen after "pretzel logic". This is a great songwriting team that was too intelligent for mainstream outlets but still found a way to have enough crossover to be called "classic rock", "jazz fusion rock", "contemporary jazz rock"...while we heard many singles from them, most of their best stuff never got on the radio.
