Steering Column Repair - Stering wheel exchange

Expert: Douglas Gan - 11/2/2009

Question
I have a 03 Silverado that does not have radio or DIC switches on the steering wheel. I would like to exchange the present steering wheel with one that has the switches. Do you know if the cables necessary to hook up the new steering wheel are in the column or will I need to pull new ones?
Thanks

Answer
George:
The option you are trying to install requires a different harness in the dash for those controls to work.  It's not just a matter of sticking a steering wheel on with switches and running wires.  The entire main dash harness as well as the steering column harness, clockspring for the airbag and the radio are all different from what you currently have.

I'm sorry, but this one you cannot just figure out without great expense and work.

Doug
