Steering Column Repair/blinker switch

Question
I have to take the handle of my blinker off for a 1990 buick century and I know I have to get into the column to do it but I got the steering wheel off and there  is a metal plate there with open circles cut all around it that seems to be the steering lock and I was wondering if that will pull off with my steering wheel puller or if there is another way that it has to be taken off.  thankyou for your time.

Answer
Hello Joe,
Yes, you need a lock plate compressor to remove the clip holding it on the shaft. You can find the tool at most retail auto parts stores like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Carquest, Advance, ORielly, etc, etc. Here is a picture of the tool:

One other thing. To remove your turn signal lever on the 90 Buick, all you need to do is pull it straight outward. Brace yourself when pulling on it as it needs a good steady tug. Some of the levers have a wire that you could break if you don't stop yourself from pulling to far. Here is a picture of how it is inserted in the switch assembly.

Hope that helps.
Have a great day!
