Question Hi, I have been attending a gym for the past three months. I work out every day for a minimum of two hours. Every second day I perform weights lifting around 12.500 pounds, and every day I use the Treadmill, Bike and Elliptical machine. Initially I lost weight (slowly), and toned up in the first 6 weeks. However for the past 6 weeks I have lost no weight, and haven't toned up a great deal. My fitness level has improved incredibly though. When I started I could only do 3 minutes on the elliptical, now I can do an hour no problem. I have spoken with my instructor, and she has advised me to up the cardio workout to include spurts of heart rate increase, which I have. I get my heart rate going, and I am soaked after the cardio workout. Why I am e-mailing is to ask, should I be losing weight??? I have done some research on the internet, and each article says that muscle weighs more than fat, but I would expect that because of the amount of exercise I am doing that I should be having some weight loss. I weight 184 pounds, so I need to lose weight to be in the healthy weight range for my height (5"4). I eat healthily, but do enjoy some treats occasionally. Can you offer me any suggestions or advice please?
Answer Hi Jeannie, sounds like you are burning a lot of calories and it is no secret that weight loss is calories in versus calories out. Pay closer attention to your intake...use a journal.. Also have someone determine your body fat percentage and concentrate on that rather than weight. Check with you physician...maybe get a complete physical with blood work to check thyroid and other things....
