Question
Hi Jeremiah, Im a 56 yr old female with fibromyalgia. I stopped taking pain medication last February and am on a quest to strengthen my body again. Ive been doing treadmill walking for 30 minutes 4 times a week. I have started minimal weight lifting but cant seem to find a happy medium. How can I build strength and muscle without putting myself in bed for a week.
Thanks
Cynthia

Answer
Cynthia,

That is a hard battle to fight, but great for you.  It sounds like you are on a great start.  My first question to you would be "Do you have access to a swimming pool?  If you do, that is a great way to start your exercise program.  Doing exercises in the pool helps to take away the toll that it puts on the body.  If you don't, I would look to balance walking and strength training.  If you could add more days, or only walk for 15/20 min and do 10 to 15 min. of exercises.  Without meeting you, this a hard question to specifically answer.  I hope that this helped.
Good luck and let me know if you still have questions,
Jeremiah
