Strength Training - body fat

Expert: Corey Crane - 1/17/2009

Question
hi i just did a body fat % test a home test with a tape measure couldnt find a cloth one so i used i regular aluminum one, it calculated out that i had 28.5% body fat i am 18 6'2 380lbs i know that isnt the best percentage in the world but is it seriously unhealthy because i work out everyday so im hoping im getting somewhere i used to be 450 not sure how much body fat but i lost alot of weight since the so my question is, is 28.5% body fat on a male 18 6'2 380lbs healthy?

Answer
Those body comp assessments have such a high stardard error so I really wouldn't use that as your guideline.  Being 6'2" and 380, I would definately keep trying to lose weight.  I would recommend that you get under 300 if not around 250.  A good percent bodyfat would be around 8-12%.  There are some major health issues for being overweight so keep working hard and good luck with your training!
Corey
