QUESTION: Hello! An answer to your question:
I was wondering... I am 14 years old and aspire to be in the NHL. I
have been playing hockey for three years and I was wondering if you could
help me improve my speed on the ice. I am already one of the fastest
skaters on the ice, but many of the players I am up against are stronger
an bigger than I since I haven't quite hit my growth spurt. I want to
be the fastest on the ice so my size won't be as big a factor.
THANKS!
Reid
IT SHOULD BE I HAVE BEEN PLAYING HOCKEY SINCE I WAS 3.
Answer Speed is a combination of leg strength, agility, acceleration, reaction time, and reactivity resources. You must work on each of these components to improve your performance. It would be difficult for me to outline a program in this forum. I will recommend a book and DVD that I use with all athletes. "Training for Speed, Agility, and Quickness" by Lee E. Brown and Vance A. Ferrigno. Order at www.HumanKinetics.com
