Experience
I have been a personal trainer, aerobics instructor, nutrition advisor and boot camp instructor for several years,in South Florida.
I generally prefer to train people outdoors in a park setting. The workout outside is just as tough as a gym workout.I can give people a excellent workout using just their bodyweight.I do a bootcamp style class with groups of 5-10 people.

Question
I am 51 years old and have had 2 kids so my stomach needs work. I have exercised regularly [aerobics, weights, treadmill] for 10 years and am in pretty good health except the stomach just won't go down. I have an ab lounge but it bothers my hiatal hernia [other things like inversion hurt as well]. Do you know any exercises that will help make my stomach smaller but not cause my hiatal hernia to flare up? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Cathy, thank you for your question.
Unfortunately, for most women-their stomach is the last thing that they lose-especially after having children.
Since you have a hiatal hernia, you will be limited in the types of abdominal exercises that you can do.Since doing inversion exercises bothers your hernia-I suggest that you do oblique exercises, such as torso twists and side bends. To do torso twists-just put a broomstick or lite barbell over your shoulders and twist your upperbody side to side.To do side bends-hold a dumbbell in your hands with your hands by your side-lean to each side, with your fingers going down the side of your leg-toward your toes. These are the two best oblique exercises-they should not bother your hernia.
     Thanks,
         bonnie
