Strength Training - bench

Expert: Joe Gunn - 4/28/2007

Question
I recently picked up at a yard sale an exercise bench with a built on squat rack and leg curl attachment.
Being a rec. hockey player, with the bench in mind, could you give me some suggestions for a workout?
Is there anything else besides calf and ham curls you can do with the attachment? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Barry, knee extension and leg curls are all that I ever did with those although there are much better exercises.  I recommend lunges with dumbells, step ups, and one-legged squats for all my athletes.  Knee extensions are troublesome and can cause injuries if you are not careful and leg curls do not work the hams as well as other exercises.  But always remember, consistency is the key for any type exercise.
