Please do not ask for a specific workout plan. In this field, I need to SEE you and evaluate your current physical capabilities. Answering such questions without assessing your needs and goals through a consultation would be irresponsible of me. Please be clear and concise in your questions. The more info you can give me, the more specific info I can provide.

Expert: John Izzo Date: 12/24/2007 Subject: building muscles
Question I am an just retired College Teacher. Age 60. Good health, but have NEVER done any regular exercise program except when in the Army 40 years ago. Really. 6ft 3in tall, about 240, most of the extra weight in the middle.
My Doctor says Go Get Into a Regular Exercise Program Now, Nothing wrong but Extra Weight.
Strangely, I have always "admired" guys that have BIG muscles. I figure I CAN do it, I'm a Big Guy, have large, long muscles being 6ft 3in, but undeveloped. Age will be a factor. But with hard work, a good diet, and NOW that I have time, I am sure that I build those muscles. What would be the most "time-effective methods" you would suggest to get this going the FASTEST. I don't want to spin my wheels, so to speak.
Any and all ideas ARE greatly appreciated !
THANKS !
Answer Well, I don't write specific exercise programs over the internet, but what I can do is make suggestions based on my success as a trainer. Firstly, you should begin using compound movements: push-ups, chin ups, squats, lunges, and crunches. You should stick with 2-3 sets with a 10-12 rep range. I think you also will need some PATIENCE--especially at your age. Your body and muscles will not respond and recover as FAST as a 25 year old, so it is best that you follow a sound exercise program carefully. Let me refer you to a few resources that will aid you in your journey: "New Rules of Lifting" by Lou Shuler is a great program packed with exercise programs, and www.exrx.net is resourceful website packed with pics of exercises. Hope this helps and good luck!
