Experience I have been a personal trainer, aerobics instructor, nutrition advisor and boot camp instructor for several years,in South Florida. I generally prefer to train people outdoors in a park setting. The workout outside is just as tough as a gym workout.I can give people a excellent workout using just their bodyweight.I do a bootcamp style class with groups of 5-10 people.

Question QUESTION: I'm looking to soon purchase exercise equipment. I have a low budget and am wanting to tone and firm my abs and love handles I am female 23 yrs old my height is 5'4 and 130 lbs. What would you suggest? What are the best exercise I could do until I get the equipment? Also I have an ab lounge are they really at all useful?Thank you for your time.
ANSWER: Hi Brittany, thank you for your question.
The ab lounge is an OK machine, you will get some results from using it.
The best items that you can get for a home workout are:
adjustable bench,(flat,incline,decline)
adjustable dumbbells,
stability ball,
resistance band,
and a mat.
These combined should cost less than $200.
Until you get these items, you can do bodyweight exercises at home.
Stationary lunges
walking lunges
squats
lateral steps
push-ups
pull-ups
crunches
leg lifts
bicycles
torso twists
jumping jacks
stair running
run in place.
Let me know if I can be of any more assistance to you,
Thanks,
bonnie

QUESTION: also do any of these have good cardio? And how much time a day should I dedicate to these exercises?
Answer Hi Brittany,
Thanks for the excellent feedback and nomination for volunteer of the month,I appreciate it.
You can exercise from 45-60 minutes a day-4-5 times a week.
Stair running, jumping jacks, and run in place are excellent cardio excercises.
What I have my clients do in my Boot Camp class is this:
1.jumping jacks-20 for beginners
2.run 50 yards
3.push-ups
4.crunches
5.run in place-60 seconds
6.torso twists
7.walking lunges-50 yards
8.squats
9.lateral steps
10.jumping jacks.
If you do these one right after the other-you will get a great full body, cardiovascular workout.
Thanks,
bonnie
