Expert: John Izzo Date: 8/6/2006 Subject: light/heavy weight training
Question Is it better to train light weight or heavy when looking to gain
explosivity?
Ive heard that for begginners to maybe intermediate light weight
is endurance and heavy is explosive training, but for the
advanced heavy lifters light weight is for explosive.
Answer Light weight refers to ballistic or plyometric moves. In this case, yes, you need light to moderate weight depending on your fitness level. Explosiveness, is usually characterized with Olympic style lifting adn thus, you must use heavy weights for such. You shoudl really learn form and correct technique before you try any type of Olympic lifts.
