Stress Management - Stress/Irritability at Night

Expert: David Spector - 9/22/2009

Question
Dear David,

I am generally a calm and patient person but I have been stressed and irritable over the fast few months. This happens only at night when my baby starts to suffer from eczema. Her condition was quite severe about 4 months ago when my wife and I literally had sleepless nights. Her body has improved and she continues to scratch at night and cries at the same time. She is 25 months old at present. My concern is that the scratching will make her eczema worse and her skin will bleed the more she scratches. I am extremely anxious about this and the fact that she could get infections. I try my best to moisturize her body and prevent her from scratching but she gets more agitated and cries even more. My frustration levels just go through  the roof especially when I awake from a deep sleep. I just cannot control myself.I am trying to take the pressure of my wife as she is pregnant and I don't want to compromise her immune system but my stress levels seem to mount. I don't really have any other issues that are stressing me out. I need to act fast to ensure that my patience levels are high and that I remain well equipped to minimize my baby's suffering.I just feel that I am on the verge of loosing my sanity if I don't take reasonable measures to counteract my stress.

Regards

Answer
Thank you for your question.

Since I know that Transcendental Meditation (www.tm.org) and NSR Meditation (www.nsrusa.org) are the most effective methods for reducing stress, I limit my recommendation to either of these techniques.

They are easy to learn, easy to practice mental techniques, practiced for a few minutes twice aday. They each require a few lessons, learned over several days.

I hope this brief answer has helped. Please feel free to submit follow up questions, if needed.

David Spector
President,
NSR Meditation/USA
