Stretching & Flexibility - Goalie Stretches for warming up?

Expert: Brad Walker (The Stretch Coach) - 10/10/2009

Question
Hello,
I am a young ringette goalie and after each game, my shoulders or legs hurt. During the game, I can feel a little bit of tightness or a slight pull in my upper arm when throwing the ring or a pull in my inner thighs while down in a butterfly. I realize that I should stretch more, but I do not know any proper stretches. Do you know any quick pre-game stretches?

Answer
Hi Michaela

Thanks for your inquiry. It's a pleasure to help and I hope the following is beneficial.

Here's some guidelines on how to warm up properly...
http://www.thestretchinghandbook.com/archives/warm-up.php

And don't forget to concentrate on the muscle groups around the areas that are tight; not just on the tight spots.

If you need examples of different stretches to do, have a look at The Stretching Handbook...

And if you're going to do any serious stretching, you really need to warm up first. No jumping out of bed and launching straight into a serious stretch session.

I hope the above has been helpful. For more information on how to stretch properly and the best stretching exercises for you, visit www.TheStretchingInstitute.com
