Question
i have a 1991 subaru legacy L series station wagon. it has a problem with the all wheel drive. the rear end seems to slip and shudder when turning from a complete stop. the dealership doesn't know what is wrong with it but they put in a fuse and it stopped it from happening. i know that the fuse somehow disconnects the all wheel drive but i don't know if it is safe to drive it that way for long periods of time. do you have ideas on what might be wrong with it or if it is safe. any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED. thank you.

Answer
Charles,
Sounds to me like your rear differential needs some work or replacement. There shouldnt be anything wrong with disconnecting the AWD. It just turns your car into a front wheel drive car. Depending on how long you plan on keeping your car or how much you value it should determine whether or not you fix the rear differential because it could be pricy to fix.
Thanks,
Ian
