Question I am thinking of purchasing a 2000 model Subaru Impreza 2.5L. I just wanted to ask your opinion of this car. I plan to keep it as long as possible. Are they expensive cars to keep maintained as far as check-ups and tune-ups are concerend?
Answer Hi
You have chosen a very good car there and there is no faulting your taste. The Imprezza must be one of the best cars on the market in terms of value for money. It is a good solid, well built car. Recently, in the past 5 years or so, Subaru has gone through some amazing changes. Mainly due to the help from its rallying pedigree. Subaru have used alot of there rally car technology in is production models so if you buy this vehicle, you aint aint buying a Turkey.
As for which model, personally I would opt for a higher performance version. This is due to a couple of reasons.
1) Top of the range models have better residual values.
2) You get more options.
3) The car is tweeked a bit better.
The car is beutiful and is a real good buy. I prefer the 22B, but thats only becuase I like the rally car. Subaru offer many options so check then out before you buy. YOu might like a spoiler on your car like the one on the Rally car, thats $750 extra. So check them out and add what you want.
In terms of costs, well thats gonna be tricky. Becuase the car is from a far eastern country, parts can be scares and expensive to get. But if your buying from new and regulary service it then you shouldnt go wrong with it. Thats all I can help with parts as I'm from England and Im not too sure about prices in the US. In terms of over here parts are very expensive, especially for the larger engine vehicles.
I hope I could help. The car is lovely and you wont be disappointed. One Note I would like to make is that Suparu are releasing a New Shape design to the Imprezza very shortly, so wait till that comes out and see how you like the look of it. Personally I think they made it look ugly.
