Subject: clock in instrument cluster not illuminated

Question
QUESTION: Wondering if there is a lamp in the back of the instrument cluster that may
need to be replaced or if the clock assembly may need to be replaced? If so,
how much of the dash panels have to be removed to get at the instrument
cluster?
The rest of the instrument cluster is lit and working properly and the clock
keeps time as it should. I guess I could look at the fuse panel to see if the
clock illumination has it's own circuit but I don't think they'd do it separate.

ANSWER: Bruce,

Is it a Forester, Outback, Wrx, Tribeca ?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: It is 2001 Outback wagon LL Bean version. Sorry I forgot that info.
Thanks for getting back to me. Bruce

Answer
Hey Bruce,

The dash cluster has to come out and apart and there is a back light or actually a few of them.  But if the actual numbers on the LED display for the clock do not work than the clock is dead.

It's kind of a tricky job, mostly that the dash panels can be a pain to get out sometimes. If you are very careful and slow you can do it just remember not to force anything or it will break.

Justin
