Question
I own a 1997 Subaru Outback and it gets stuck in park.  It tends to only get stuck when it's cold outside, and once it warms up it goes into gear no problem.
Any help regarding this problem would be much appreciated.
Erica

Answer
Hey Erica,

A couple of possibilities, usually what happens is pop and or coffee are spilt into the shift mechanism and the arm that attaches to the shift interlock solenoid becomes sticky which prevents it from moving out of gear.  Based on the hot cold symptom this is what makes sense to me.

You can try taking the cover off of the shifter and spraying some aerosol type glass cleaner into the shifter and it should help.
