Subject: Engine knock sensor

Question
Car-x checked my 1997 Impreza outback when engine light went on - says it is the engine knock sensor.  He reset the computer, but the light cam on again almost immediately.  He said it is an expensive repair and car not worth it.  What does this do and is ir dangerous to drive car in this condition?

Answer
Zach,

Subaru Suggested list is $90.00 for the part, not expensive in my book but its all relative.

Leaving a faultly knock , can cost you at the pump, affect how much the car pollutes, can allow the car to ping which over time will damage the engine.

I dont know who CAR X is but they need to check there facts before advising you.

You can read more about what a check engine light means here.
