Subaru Repair - check engine light

Expert: All Wheel Drive Auto - 4/16/2007

Question
I have an '05 Forester with 27k miles on it.  When I put the car in drive this morning the CEL light (and cruise control)lights lit up.  The engine sputtered a bit so I didn't drive it.  gas cap is tight.  any ideas?

Answer
Sorry, but nothing immediately comes to mind.Good news is that at you're mileage you are should still be under warranty.I have had a Forester melt a tail lamp socket from excessive heat, and it did illuminate the Check engine and Cruise Control light as well as the ABS light but that wouldnt explain the engine sputter.
