AboutMatt Maguire Expertise I am new to allexperts, but have plenty of knowledge and experience in the realm of Sublime. Guarantee: you will receive an answer within 2 days of posting the question -- I have no feedback so far and would like to build some.
I can answer most questions about the band, the significance of the lyrics, the show dates,
the unreleased albums and tracks, misinformation, and, above all, I am an expert on their
influences and related music.
Experience I have been a huge fan for 14 years, I ran a server which distributed Sublime's live and unreleased music 24/7 for 4 years, I have answered questions about the band daily for years on their old website, and I know some of the largest collectors in the world. I created the 5 CD bootleg "Rewind Selector" which documents the influences of Sublime and was the topic of a Spin Magazine interview.
Education/Credentials I did not study music in college, but I majored in English, so I can write a clear response. I worked as a research assistant in the past, so I have skills in research if I need to figure out an answer.
Past/Present Clients Sublime fans aren't my clients, but I have distributed swag and rare tracks to all those who want them for years at no cost.
Expert: Matt Maguire Date: 6/13/2008 Subject: Doin Time Remixes
Question How many official Doin Time Remixes are there? like the ones on euts and Sublime tenth anniversary edition, not somesthin a fan mixed up
Answer That's a pretty difficult question to answer because Sublime is the band where "official release" is never black and white, always a shade of grey. I mean there are probably 15 versions of the song (the Doin Time DJ promo itself has several versions, if you count the a cappella tracks as separate from the instrumentals and complete mixes. Pure Anus is certainly not an "official" release, but the Hip Hop Dub Doin Time from that bootleg is studio recorded and not a fan mashup. Do you count DJ Solly as a fan or an official release since he is a professional? Is the demo a release?
I know you don't want to include the Notorious BIG mix or the NaS mix or some of the others, but would you count a version by the Long Beach Dub Allstars since they are not Sublime?
All in all, I'd estimate the count at more than a dozen, but everything rests on the objective definition.
The most important thing is that you have a favorite and you play it when summer rolls around.
