Expert: Andy Date: 7/2/2008 Subject: Eric's Strings and Guitars
Question What kind of strings did Eric play with in Sublime? Also, what guitars did he use? Did he ever play a Precision? Thanks.
Answer Recently eric has been playing celinder bass guitars..though he did play a fender model you referred to in the question.For all of sublimes last an self titled album he used a dan macdonald custom bass(mcdonald was also responsible for guitar teching and built brad's custom brown guitar)In the Mcdonald model eric had a gibson EB-1 in the neck position which he used exculsively and a bridge pickup used only for heavy material.
Celinder has a website that is currently being updated..check it out in the near future..i think they are pricey..but if you want a nice bass..than you want a nice bass!!
Not sure of the string size..although he preffered a ton of low end..in one interview he stated he hated hearing his fingers clacking around on the strings...so i'm sure he tuned down a 1/2-full step if needed to relieve the tension on the neck.
Wilson was also proficent in the fretless bass and one of a few players who absolutley pwns on the standup bass..being such a large guys he just looms over the thing and drops lines hard enough to rattle you!
hope this helps out evan.,.,,take care and happy 4th.,.andy=}
