AboutAndy Expertise I am very familar with all sorts of questions pertaining sublime and the groups members.Whether it be about brad's songs, tattoos, guitars, amp, recordings, there isn't much i can't answer, and if i am not able i am willing to research until i can find one.
Experience Saw sublime play at the 1st warped tour on august 17th 1995 at the tweeter center(was the blockbuster pavillion then),saw Long Beach Dub Allstarts perform in 2002 at the electric factory in philly.I have been playing guitar for 8 years and have both published versions of sublime guitar tab, plus can play almost 90% of sublimes music to a tee.I also have connections in the tattooing industry, and knowlege about the bands tattoo's from various interviews, pics, live show tapes, and a segment from tattoo magazine featuring opie ortiz, who inked alot of the band.Have Also been following the LBC music scene since 1995

Question first off man your awnser helped so much, so thanks for putting in the time to write all that. now just a couple follow up questions.
"Early on brad played thru an roland jazz chorus(120 watt solid state amp w/real chprus and reverb, possibly the best sounding clean amp of all time)"
are these amps still made? and if not how much would a used one cost, i found a used one for 500$ but im not sure if that would be a good deal or not?
"I'd recommend the fender delux strat since due to it's pickup splittin ability is the most far ranging tonally out of fenders line up.Expensive but worth the money."
i was jamming with my bud when i read this and he had ans sg so i tried that out, and the other guitarist in his band had a non americain made strat and i treid that out too and i honestly liked that strat better, it had a better feel to it for me. so im thinking as soon as i get about 500$ ill have enough for a deluxe strat.
"In closing practice alot of reagge/ska chord progressions,"
could name any reggae/ska chord progressions cause my band hasnt written a tone of music yet and i dont want to straight up jack a chord progression from a song, or even if oyu know any websites that could teach that. i mostly just use barre chords when playing reggae?? i know thats what brad did, are there any other ways, or is there a more traditional way?
once agiain thatnks man and sorry for the second question
peace
Answer hey man,.,,the roland jc-120 will run you about 1200 new or about 400-800 used...and since it's a solid state amp you don't have to worry about tubes being busted up or whatnot.Plus it's more of a blues, jazz amp..so most of the time your going to find them in good hands,,,not to say somebody didn't crank it for days..but most take good care of the amps.
About your guitar..it comes down to what you like...check out a jazz chorus at a guitar center or sam ash or whatever big wig place you got around(i'm in cherry hill NJ..an 2 mins away is those two places in the same shopping center!)-anyhow-hook up a SG an a strat to that bad boy and see which one gives you a better sound overall. The one thing i must warn you about is the amp is not made for distortion..though it will make your pedals sound god like because of how sweet sounding the amp is..it will not give you a hard distortion sound like a randall, marshall, mesa, ect.
As far as chord progressions the best thing to do is keep with the bar chords to practice..but if you can strike out an get a ska or reggae tab/learning style book.Ska is just faster reggae with more moveable chord progressions..reggae is the 1/2 time ska..A decent book will give you a good idea of minor, major chords, soloing in the style of reggae, how to keep in key,,and you also want to know how to play at least 2 barre positions for each chord. It's cool cause you can mix it up during a song..if your playing an Bm on the second..in the next clip you can slide it down to the root 7th fret..and it still is in key..just raised up a little..gives you a more melodic sound/changes the mood.
If you can't find decent books the head to ultimateguitar.com --and feel free to rip any of your favorite songs/artists stuff...it's how you learn...and hell..rockstars cover each others shit like it's going outta style!!
Def check out that website..hit up yahoo or google search and enter that...you'll find it..on the site you can search by artist or song...and they're are stars and reviews for the quality of the tab..sometimes you just gotta pull up a chair and bring your axe..play along and take the best of what it offers and leave the incorrect novice stuff alone.
The best bang for your buck right now would be to get to a guitar center or whatnot and pick up sublime tab books...40oz and sublime sublime...it will be money well spent..cause in you hands will be sublime music to a tee...all the leads, double track rhythms, solos,,you name it...oh plus lyrics!! I was stoked when i landed the tab book..just came home and skanked away for hours.
I feel the sublime books will help you the most..cause you'll get chord progressions from the songs, develop your own,,plus be able to play music you like note for note.it will help the band out as well to see the chord progression/time changes,,and the general feel of the song by seeing the tab out in front of them.
