About GMan
Expertise
I can answer any/all questions in regard to "sublime". I was down with the band and Skunk Records since 1991; the year they released their second cassette, "Jah Won't Pay the Bills" until the end in 1996. I have answers to all of your questions about their music, their releases, their unreleased music, their promos, merchandise, and the like. You ask it, I'll answer it.

Experience
I have extensive knowledge of "sublime" from their origin(s)through the end of their career. I have been involved with "sublime" from the early years when Kelly Vargas was on Drums, I know everything that there is to know about their early career, their rise to fame in the early 90's, & on through until May 96' when Brad passed away. I specialize in the band's merchandise. I have been collecting everything that is "sublime" since the beginning and have extensive knowledge on the subject. They released an unparalleled amount of DYI promotional merchandise before being signed to MCA & I would be glad to help you find out what piece of their BIG puzzle you are holding on to and/or what you'd like to get your hand on!

Publications
I am a regular on all of the sublime chat boards and was a constant on the now defunct sublime board, "The Curb" where many people considered me the "go to guy" for information on "sublime" and the rarities that they left behind for us all.

Sublime - German 40 Oz cd??

Expert: GMan - 5/31/2009

Question
Hey Gman-

Can you give me some info about the German version of 40 Oz To Freedom?  I think the one I'm talking about is the Community pressing one, but I'm not completely sure.  I know the writing on the disk is in a spiral, and there is no parental advisory.  How rare are these and where could I get one? Thanks!

Answer
Hey Vincent,

Here's some info on that release:

These CDs are VERY RARE...

You see, Sublime and Skunk were just about to ink the MCA deal but they hadn’t done so yet,…..As well, Brad hadn’t died yet……So…Before any of that went down,..sublime was fishing deals for distribution of their stuff. Along the way, they ran into “Community”, and “Liberation” and approached them for overseas distribution.

Well, as we all know,… sublime was not some big well known band that everybody knew of,..or wanted to sign quite yet……..So, Only by chance did these two labels sign a distribution deal with sublime.

Now, remember, way back when,… almost 13 years ago….sublime was well known ONLY on the West Coast; mostly in So. Cal.. so the fact that a company decided to distribute 40 oz. in Europe purely on the merit of their music…(again, remember,…They never toured Europe.) is a testament to how key sublime really were. You try and shop a label on the other side of the world with just the CD you made for 1000 bucks!

Anyways, They DID decide to distribute their album with an original press of 1000 made and the Germany 40oz. became a part of sublime's  history!

**This is the CD that ”Officially” released Bradley’s version of “TRENCHTOWN ROCK” by Bob Marley!

These things are IMPOSSIBLE to get. The CD, put out by “Community Records” in 1996 is WAY out of print, was only sold in Europe, and I was told that 1000 of these were made!!!

I hope this helps & you can hit me up on my email when you want to get one.

My email is: george.harris2114@sbcglobal.net

I hope this helps.
