Question
QUESTION: Are there more sublime versions of prophet aside from the demo on EUTS? Did they ever perform it live?  follow up question will by the lyrics . cheers, Brock

ANSWER: Hi Brock,

Prophet is on the bootleg "Pure Anus" and was repurposed for EUTS and cleaned up. There are no other recordings of it out for the public that I know of. They never performed it live.

Listen to What I Got and crank it up at the end and you'll hear Bradley sing the first line, "I ain't no prophet..." before the fade.

Facts for you:

+ Sublime's version of Prophet is a cover of Slightly Stoopid's song.
+ Sublime's version is titled Ain't No Prophet on track 15 on Pure Anus.
+ Bradley played bass on Slightly Stoopid's version of Prophet on their self-titled album.
+ Slightly Stoopid and Sublime's song Prophet is heavily influenced by the Bobby Darin song, "If I Were a Carpenter" and incorporates some lines.

Sublime's lyrics (imprecise, rough cut):
i ain't no prophet
i don't wanna cure no damn disease
would you marry me anyways
if i was on my knees?

i'm going through my time of change
in my time of need
and loooo-whoa-ove
hmph whatever

so i thought to myself
i'm gonna marry into wealth
going to take everything she's got to offer
and keep it for myself
ooo oo oo oo oo

she said to me
"i don't like what i see"
i said to her
"i don't even know your name"

and she said to me
"i don't like what i see"
i said to her
"i don't even fucking care"

i ain't no prophet
i don't wanna cure no damn disease
would you marry me anyways
if i was on my knee?

in my time of change
in my time of need
love if you thought that you'd insult me?
you just got fifteen years old
good bye!

said to me
"i don't like what i see"
i said to her
"i don't even know your name"

and she said to me
"i don't like what i see"
i said to her
"i don't even fucking care"

Best,
Matt

QUESTION: thanks Matt, just learned this on guitar and it is so sweet. So many variations of lyrics on the web, listened to it a 100 times,  obviously they tweaked the stoopid lyrics; I just don't hear the "fifteen years" part in this section and this sounds Bradley stylee:

D          C          G          D
Iím going through my time of change    in my time of need
D          C          G          D
but if you thought youíd insult me     its not against the ears of gunfire

whole song lyrics from my ears:

"Lets give it a go here I dunno lets see alright cool"

D         C          G          D

D          C        G          D
would you marry me anyways      if i was on my knees
     D          C          G          D

      D          C          G          D

C          G         C          G
she said to me    i donít   like what i see
C          G       D
i said to her     that i donít even know your name
    C          G          C          G
and she said to me    i donít    like what i see
C          G          D

D         C          G          D
i ainít no prophet     donít wanna cure no damn disease
D          C          G          D
would you marry me anyways    if i was on my knees          (faster)
D          C          G          D
Iím going through my time of change    in my time of need
D          C          G          D
but if you thought youíd insult me     its not against the ears of gunfire

C          G         C          G
she said to me     i dont   like what i see
C          G          D
and I said to her     i dont even know your name
    C          G          C          G
and she said to me      i donít    like what i see
C          G          D
i said to her      that I donít even   fucking caaare...

ha thats so sick!
dude, this song needs to be re-fuckin thought out...

cheers, Brock

Answer
Yes I wouldn't even worry about that line -- in typical sublime fashion it's unintelligible and might not even be words as a first take of a rough cut. Brad May have been singing the Stoopid song and just forgot the lyrics when he came up to them.

I can answer most questions about the band, the significance of the lyrics, the show dates, the unreleased albums and tracks, misinformation, and, above all, I am an expert on their influences and related music. Additionally, if you're looking for that hard to find track or a cheap alternative to the $300 book Crazy Fool: Portrait of a Punk, I might be able to help.

Experience

I have been a huge fan for 16 years, I ran a server which distributed Sublime's live and unreleased music 24/7 for 4 years, I have answered questions about the band daily for a decade on their old website, and I know some of the largest collectors in the world. I created the 5 CD bootleg "Rewind Selector" which documents the influences of Sublime and was the topic of a Spin Magazine interview.

Education/Credentials
I did not study music in college, but I majored in English, so I can write a clear response. I worked as a research assistant in the past, so I have skills in research if I need to figure out an answer.

Past/Present Clients
Sublime fans aren't my clients, but I have distributed swag and rare tracks to all those who want them for years at little cost.
