About Matt Maguire
Expertise
I am new to allexperts, but have plenty of knowledge and experience in the realm of Sublime. Guarantee: you will receive an answer within 2 days of posting the question -- I have no feedback so far and would like to build some. I can answer most questions about the band, the significance of the lyrics, the show dates, the unreleased albums and tracks, misinformation, and, above all, I am an expert on their influences and related music.

Experience
I have been a huge fan for 14 years, I ran a server which distributed Sublime's live and unreleased music 24/7 for 4 years, I have answered questions about the band daily for years on their old website, and I know some of the largest collectors in the world. I created the 5 CD bootleg "Rewind Selector" which documents the influences of Sublime and was the topic of a Spin Magazine interview.

Education/Credentials
I did not study music in college, but I majored in English, so I can write a clear response. I worked as a research assistant in the past, so I have skills in research if I need to figure out an answer.

Past/Present Clients
Sublime fans aren't my clients, but I have distributed swag and rare tracks to all those who want them for years at no cost.

Subject: "Mona" song

Question
I am looking for a song that my friends are calling the "Mona" song by Sublime. I can't find it anywhere. Can you tell me what song they're referring to? I don't have any lyrics or anything to give to help.

Answer
Britt --

There is no song called "Mona," but I have a fairly good idea to which song they are referring:  "Waiting for My Ruca."  They are hearing "Mona" when he says "RaMONA".

The lyrics give it away:

------------------------------------------
On the eastside, that's where I met my Ramona,
"I wanna go to a party," that's what she said
Lonely - that's what I been

Here's my telephone number call me
..and to a party a house par-ty Whole lotta people jus rally-roun-me and love,
she send a message of love
she said I love up the way you move, I love the way you rap ,BOPP BOPP.
Ramona please step back

'Cause she's my ruca, I'm barely waiting for my heina
(stand up)
She moved from Long Beach down to LA
Right now she selling oranges by the freeway
I wanna know, Ramona am I the only one tell me
and she said "Your not the only one, but your the best Bradly",BOPP BOPP.
And know now I waiting for my ruca and I barely pulled up with my heina
I know tonite I be behind her, don't fuck around with my heina "
------------------------------------------

If you or your friends want to know, "heina" is mexican slang for girl with good connotations, but "ruca" is like calling a girl a bitch, specifically, your bitch.

That's the first track off of 40oz, a great album straight through.  Go buy it and have a listen and enjoy!

Matt
