AboutMatt Maguire Expertise I am new to allexperts, but have plenty of knowledge and experience in the realm of Sublime. Guarantee: you will receive an answer within 2 days of posting the question -- I have no feedback so far and would like to build some.
I can answer most questions about the band, the significance of the lyrics, the show dates,
the unreleased albums and tracks, misinformation, and, above all, I am an expert on their
influences and related music.
Experience I have been a huge fan for 14 years, I ran a server which distributed Sublime's live and unreleased music 24/7 for 4 years, I have answered questions about the band daily for years on their old website, and I know some of the largest collectors in the world. I created the 5 CD bootleg "Rewind Selector" which documents the influences of Sublime and was the topic of a Spin Magazine interview.
Education/Credentials I did not study music in college, but I majored in English, so I can write a clear response. I worked as a research assistant in the past, so I have skills in research if I need to figure out an answer.
Past/Present Clients Sublime fans aren't my clients, but I have distributed swag and rare tracks to all those who want them for years at no cost.

Question Hey man you know that ralliegh guy on "robbin". I know that he was supposedly a mental patient they just happend to come across his tapes he made. But I wanted to ask you if you know if there is a picture of the guy anywhere. I would trip out to see this guy. Also, I am a super big fan of Sublime I have been since the first time I heard Robbin the Hood back in 96, I was 14. Man i really really would like to have a copy of "Crazy fool". I already have all the DVD's, albums, and bootlegs from the band and I still cant get enough. I would like to read this to see the personal accounts more from family and friends. I saw your earlier response to another fan, I just wanted to ask if you could help me out!!!!
Thanks man, Derek
Answer Derek --
I answered the often-asked question about Raliegh before, but to answer your specific question, a "picture" of him is in the tray are for bumS lie/Psycho Semantic Police. I doubt it is him and there is no evidence.
I can help you out with Crazy Fool, but you must email me (my email is in past answers).
Here is what I wrote previously for an in depth piece on Raliegh:
Raleigh Theodore Sakers has many rumors flying around about him. Some say they KNOW for a fact that it’s a friend of Opie pretending to be crazy. Some people say that they KNOW for a fact that it’s Bud himself, citing that he starts talking like him in “Don’t Care Too Much for Reggae Dub” off Robbin the Hood (really, at the end of the track “Freeway Time in LA County Jail” because the album is a continuous track). Some say they KNOW for a fact that the band worked with him, etc, etc. I’ve heard it all, and every bit of “evidence” is very flimsy. I seriously doubt that Sublime knew him. I *KNOW* it’s not a member of the band. That guy is so out of his mind (schizophrenic) but so intelligent…it’s genuine and could not be faked by anyone. I say that having listened to the full, uncut version many times which is 31 minutes and 45 seconds long. I doubt that the picture inside the tray of “bumS lie: Psycho Semantic Police” is Raleigh. Wikipedia has a section on Raleigh, but I call heresay on the ENTIRE entry because there is no evidence and the original poster can’t even spell the guy’s name correctly.
The most interesting information comes from Brad in an interview with Heckler Magazine in response to an interview question: “Brad:Umm...our old drummer Kelly. His brother had a friend that worked in a halfway home. He was in there one day and there was this fuckin' wierdo (Raleigh), and he was just going off. So our buddy just got his tape recorder and pressed record. Then Raleigh started hallucinating and thought that he was making a science fiction magazine. He was making such a scene that they tried to kick him into the psych ward. We have, thank God, about two or three hours of this guy just rambling. The whole thing is just, there is only a certain amount of time that you can put on a CD, and we like to fill it with not only good music, but some funny stuff too. It's just like stuff you can come across, alright, that is sooo fucking funny. I mean, that Raleigh shit is fucking hilarious. We just put as much as we could on this CD.”
I disagree. There just isn’t any proof that this tape wasn’t found. Why did they have a tape recorder? How could they tape anything for three hours? Why is the actual uncut tape 30 minutes? Why is RALEIGH in control of the tape player and why is there not a peep from anyone in the room at all until the guy comes in yelling at him? Wouldn’t someone laugh or provoke him? When Raleigh threatens the guy he says he’ll put him in the Psych Ward/Psycho Tank – but Brad says they’re already there. I think it’s another bout of misinformation.
Some Raleigh facts: He is crazy. He sings Billie Holiday “You Don’t Know What Love Is”. He is extremely intelligent and quick witted, albeit a racist, sexist schizophrenic. Skunk.com used to have the full version for download on the site, free of charge with cover art shown here: http://www.geocities.com/funkmaster55/ralcov.jpg. I can send it to you if you want. That cover art is a picture of an old school tobacco manufacturer (antique) that pictured Sir Walter Raleigh on the cover: http://www.blackcatcigars.com/sirwalter.jpg. Nothing people write about Raleigh is fact because nothing is backed up with evidence; Sublime members would lie about it as a running joke and have never said the same thing twice.
