Question
For about 6 months I've been cutting myself and feeling very depressed. When I told my mom she acted like it would go away with time. She doesn't know that I still do it and I don't want to let her down, but I've been feeling suicidal a lot lately. I want to get some sort of help but I'm afraid my family will ignore it an won't try to get me help. Only my family knows, no friends and not my doctor. How do I bring up the subject with my mom?

Answer
Clarisa,
Sorry for the late response but this question was not directed at anyone in particular and I just found it in the question pool.

Write her a letter expressing how you feel. Sometimes it's easier to write you feelings instead of talking directly to an adult.  Give her the letter and tell her you will be in your room.  You are not letting her down.  ALL parents want to know if their child is suffering and they want to help.  She may not understand but she will want to help.  Sometimes parents hope you will just get over it but sometimes you need more help.  Let her know your feelings have not changed and you are feeling suicidal.  You can also call 1-800-784-2433 to speak with someone about your suicidal feelings and discuss ways of letting mom know and getting help.  If there is anything else I can do please send the question directly to me on this site and I will do my best.
Good luck,
Chris
