Subject: Why do I try to kill myself?

Question
The first time I tried to kill myself was when I was 14, my home situation wasn't good but at moment in my life there was nothing really that bad going on; I just decided one day to kill myself.
Obviously I survived that ( I took pills) and I've fought off the urge to kill myself for a long time. No specific reason. I used to self harm instead but I stopped that when I fell pregnant.
Last night though for some reason in all these long years I decided to kill myself. In front of all my friends at a close friends gathering. There was no specific reasoning and even I can't understand why I did it. Why do I try to? I've stopped trusting myself with myself, especially after last night?

Answer
Kit,
I do not know what would cause you to feel like killing yourself.  Obviously something it going on and I think you should speak with your doctor and find a therapist to work through the issues about which you may not be consciously aware.  You may have something on a subconscious level that is causing the urges but this is only a guess and not a substitute for a professional evaluation.  Call you doctor and find a therapist as soon as possible.  If you are thinking about harming yourself please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.  Your impulsivity and lack of insight about the motivations for your actions worried me.
Act now,
Chris
