Question
Hi there,

My Suzuki JLX SE 3 door J Reg (1991) jeep broke down last night on a steep hill and will not start. I filled the car with petrol, checked all the fuses and topped up the battery but to no avail. I have been told to check the spark plugs or fuel filter as the battery is working, and the car is not turning over very well when started. How do I check these and do you have any other suggestions?

Thankyou,
Roxana

Answer
You unscrew the spark plugs to inspect them.  It's also a good idea when you have them out, to put them on the wires, and lay them on the valve cover, and crank the motor over to see if they all spark.  If they do, then that also indicates the coil, cap, rotor, and wires are probably ok.   Checking the fuel filter can only be done by measuring the volume delivered, as well as volume returmed to the tank.  This also measures fuel pump function.   You definitely need a service manual to do this kind of work.  It has specifications, procedures, and the like.   If you need more, get back in contact with me.
