Subject: key stuck in ignition switch

Question
2000 Grand Vitara. It's in the acc position.  I took the battery cable off to see if it would release the key lock, didn't work.  I have a feeling the trans isn't telling the switch it's in park. Never had any trouble with the switch before it got stuck.  Can you give me a few suggetions?

katie.....thanks

Answer
Actually, most of the Suzuki knowledge I have is Samurai, and Sidekick, because that's what I had and modified.  But here's what I do know: lots of cars have a cable from the trans to the steering/ignition lock that won't permit the key to be removed unless the trans is in park.  Some other brands use an electrical interlock solenoid.
Try IATN.NET   They have a shopfinder on the home page, you can also get a Suzuki (the factory one) manual.  look at IZOOK.com .... I believe you can get a manual through Hawk Strictly Suzuki through the links section of the izook site.  Sorry it's not better info, but you've got a model that I've never worked on.
