Question
Dear Karinafp,
Salam,

I'm a teacher, I need to know the pronounciation of these Swedish words. It's great help of you to give me their nearly sounds: for  /gla:s/

Regards.
A.Zahiri

glass:  glas /      /

bus : buss /      /

dish :  karott /           /

airplane :    flygplan /         /

alarm clock :  väckarklocka  /            /

grandmother :  farmor /         /

Answer
I can help you with a couple of them, but others involve such specific Swedish sounds that they're almost impossible to describe; you have to actually HEAR them.

GLAS is pronounced as the English word glass.

KAROTT is almost like the French carrotte, but with a rolling R.

These pages give you a nice introduction to Swedish pronounciation. I hope they can help you. If not, mail me again and I'll try to send you a couple of sound files. However, I'll be going on vacation now, so I'll not be available for about a month.
