Sweet Violets (Violas)/Viola Flowers

Question
Where can I get some viola plants?   Or seeds?
How long do they take to grow?  I had never heard
of them, but was fascinated by a program on public
radio.  They sound so lovely.  Are they hard to
care for? Do they like sun, shade, partial sun?
Do they make a good border?  I understand there
are several color combinations.  Thanks for any
info. you can give me.  I am not really a very
good gardner, but am so interested in these little
flowers.  Thanks.  Caroline Harrington

Answer
Caroline,

Thank you for your inquiry. In fact, this is the second time I answer your email, but Allexperts insists it is still pending.

You have many questions regarding violas and would take volumes to answer properly.  Violas bloom in late spring, are forerunners to the pansies and closely related to violets.  With this in mind, I'd suggest you visit

www.americanvioletsociety.org

and peruse its archives or do a search on violas, to get the information you need.  Good luck!
