Question
QUESTION: Working on closing our (new to us) inground pool.  In attempting to run system, we discovered that one of the two jets was pushing air.  The second would only work if the first jet was plugged.  Additionally, neither of the skimmers appeared to be pulling in any water and no water was produced when we tried running filter on backwash.

In trying to clear out the skimmers, one is clear and air pushed through from filter emits.  The other shows evidence of small roots that we are unable to suction out.

What next?

ANSWER: When did the pump run correctly last?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The pool was last open 1 1/2 years ago.  That's all we know other than neighbors said the previous owners had difficulty balancing water (with chemicals).  We had the Hayward pump rebuilt shortly after purchasing house in August.

Answer
First I use a hose in one skimmer at a time, shove it in and plug it tight with a rag[pump off]see where water comes out.Have the other skimmer plugged also.If water comes out at the pump plug it also with a rag.Water should come out at the jets.Plug 1 jet at a time and observe the water flow in each jet.Let the water run 5-10 minutes.Let me know what happened. Also is the pump higher or lower then the water level?Lynn
