Subject: Low Pressure on Heater Line

Question
I have an inground pool with a gas heater.  I just changed the sand in my filter (Jacuzzi Laser 225) as well.  When not using the heater, my water pressure is at 15 psi with no problems.  When I switch the control valve and send the water to the heater, the pressure normally rises to 20 psi, but lately, the pressure only goes to about 18 psi, and this does not seem to send enough water to the heater, as the heather will not ignite.  I also noticed when not using the heater, there is significantly more flow (pressure) coming from my lines at 15 psi than there is with the heater on and the pressure is at 18 psi.  Any suggestions ?  Do I have a leak in my lines to the heater?  Thanks!

Answer
18 pounds seems normal,if output flow is that much reduced when going from heater to bypass,I would look for valve not opening completely, clogged heater or pipe.Heater has a pressure switch to prevent heater from overheating. They make a commercial heater cleaner at pool store.Lynn
