Subject: Quick fix to a leaky skimmer

Question
The pipes on the bottom of my skimmer (under concrete) have a 4" crack...no pool company can fix until the end of the year. Without running pipe, is there a way to patch the pipe? HELP PLEASE..

Answer
I have a idea that I used once.I inserted a flexible tubing inside the pipe as big as possible, make sure is goes past the leak or as far as it will go.[usually to the ninety]This tubing needs to be fairly heavy. For extra protection so it won't get sucked in I put a pipe clamp on leaving tubing just above pipe but below waterline. You might be able to use a smaller pvc pipe but heavy tubing might be better. The tighter the fit the better.Use some duckseal to seal the pipe or tubing to the pipe so it doesn't leak.Electricians use this to seal with.It looks like clay, water doesn't hurt it.Lynn[You might want to put a pin across the diameter so it cannot be sucked in.Let me know.)It will work so well you may save hundreds of dollars.
