Question I had my inground molded material pool that I opened a bit late this year (mid June). I'm in northeastern NC. The pool is approximately 30' by 15', and we use salt for chlorine generation not chlorine discs. It is approximately 10 years old. This was the first year the pool was opened under my ownership. After having it opened by a pool maintenance company, it was shocked and cleaned - the ph and alkalinity were perfect, but I found calcium deposits on the sides of and steps of the pool (2-3 feet on the sides). I was told to remove it using a "not to abrasive" material. It will probably take all summer providing I can find the correct material. If I do not remove it, will it do any harm? If I am capable (I'm 63 years old) of removing it, what are the chances of it returning? Is there any chemical solution to use on the calcium deposits while rubbing, or a chemical that I can use in the pool to loosen or remove these deposits (as well as preventing it from occurring)? Truthfully, I don't mind the calcium on the steps because it helps prevent slipping. Hope you can help. Thank you! Len
Answer Evidently the alk./ph was off at one time,I don't see it harming anything more than it did ,other than being unsightly. They do make a dissolver [scale stain remover] and a brush.Keep the chem. up and should wear away.Lynn Also lowering the PH to around 6.0-6.5 would help during the removal process, then return it to normal.
