Question QUESTION: Hi, We have an apparent circulation problem, meaning: the circulation pump runs, but circulation gets weaker and weaker over the course of a day or so.
Once we stop the pump (and if only for a few seconds) and switch it back on the circulation seems to be fine.
We replaced the sand in the filter, but that did not seem to make a difference.
I can also not find any debris in the skimmer or pump basket. Do you have an idea what the problem could be?
PS: Pump is about 3 years old.
Thanks. Joe.
ANSWER: What does the pressure do when this happens? If their was a problem with a pump bearing their would be noise and heat at the motor end.Impeller slippage is possible. How often and how consistent is this?Does it help if you backwash for 2 minutes and rinse for 30 seconds?Lynn

QUESTION: Thanks for getting back so quickly. Backwash does help, but I tried that before as well and the pump does run well at first only to drop off later. The pump does get really hot though.
I took the pump out and separated the basket part and the actual motor. Everything seems fine, i.e. impeller looks good and no debris inside. Put the pump back together and ran fine overnight, but this morning it was down to a trickle again.
I am not sure about the pressure, because the gauge is busted.
Answer If the pump basket is staying full of water and the output is down to a trickle, the motor is running at speed we really need to know what the pressure is.If is high we have a filter problem if it is low we have a pump/impeller problem.Lynn [you are sure of no blockages].One other thought do you have a by-pass on filter this would eliminate the internal parts of filter.
